Mazzorbo is a small agricultural island next to Burano, in the northern reaches of the Venetian Lagoon. It’s easy to reach from Burano by crossing the small footbridge that connects the two islands. However, Mazzorbo does have its own waterbus stop, which means you can arrive on Burano and depart from Mazzorbo (or vice versa) if you want to explore both. Mazzorbo is served by ACTV Lines 12, N public water buses.
Mazzorbo has one small hotel: the highly-rated Venissa (B&B), which faces the Lagoon and has a Michelin-starred restaurant that serves white wine made by the innkeepers1. You can also take vineyard tours and tasting experiences at Venissa to learn about their viticulture project on Mazzorbo island.
The most interesting sight on Mazzorbo, at least for fans of architecture and urban planning, is the government-assisted “case soziale” housing project designed by Giancarlo De Carlo. The houses, which are painted in Buranese colors, were built from 1979 to 19863.
There are several restaurants on Mazzorbo and the neighboring islands where you can enjoy a meal. One option on Mazzorbo is Trattoria Alla Maddalena, which serves typical Venetian cuisine based on seafood, game, and first fruits, all accompanied by a various wine list and cakes made by the owners themselves.
If you’re willing to explore the neighboring islands, there are many more options available. Some highly rated restaurants include Osteria Al Museo Burano and Osteria Al Ponte del Diavolo on Burano and Torcello respectively.
