T Fondaco dei Tedeschi is located on the Grand Canal near the Rialto Bridge in Venice. The building was first constructed in 1228 and was used as a trading post for German merchants. It was rebuilt between 1505 and 1508 after being destroyed in a fire. Throughout its history, it has served various purposes, including a customs house under Napoleon and a post office under Mussolini. In 2008, the building was sold to the Benetton Group, who converted it into a luxury shopping center.
If you are already in Venice, you can reach T Fondaco dei Tedeschi by foot or by taking a ferry. The ACTV S.p.a operates a ferry from S. Silvestro to Rialto Mercato every 15 minutes, and the journey takes about 8 minutes.
